Sri: Hanuma:n Vadama:la

& Betel Leaf Archana (Aakupu:ja Se:va)

The day after Sri: Sanjeevani Hanuma:n opens his eyes, the whole goshti offers him what he loves most: a great garland of vadas, placed on the 9-foot mu:rthi for the first time while the hall chants the Hanuma:n Cha:li:sa, in the presence of HH Sri: Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swa:mi:ji. Questions

Good to know

›What is a vadama:la?

A garland of vadas — savoury lentil fritters — strung and offered to Hanuma:n. It is his most loved offering: Hanuma:n is the embodiment of strength, and the vada is the strength-giving prasa:dam. On the consecration's closing night it is offered to the newly consecrated 9-foot Sri: Sanjeevani Hanuma:n for the first time.

›What is Aakupu:ja (betel leaf archana)?

An archana in which a fresh betel leaf (aaku, tha:mbu:la) is offered with each name of Hanuma:n. Sponsor families offer the leaves in their own name, go:thram and nakshathram.

›Is there a cost to attend?

No. Attendance is free on all five days. Sponsorships are optional offerings in your family's name.

›What does the $108 sponsorship cover?

Your family's sankalpam for the vadama:la and the betel-leaf archana that evening, and a share of the blessed vadama:la prasa:dam to take home. It is one line on the official sponsorship sheet — Hanuma:n Vadama:la & Betel Leaf Archana (A:ku Pu:ja), $108.

›Can we help make the vadas?

Yes — the vadama:la is prepared by volunteer families on the day. Sign up for the Tuesday kitchen shift on the volunteer page, or write to the kitchen team at the Registration desk.

›Do we get prasa:dam to take home?

Yes. After the Maha: Ha:rathi the vadama:la is distributed as prasa:dam, boxed for each family at the thi:rtha prasa:da goshti.

›Is this the same as the Tuesday Hanuma:n Ha:rathi?

The a:sramam's weekly Tuesday Hanuma:n Ha:rathi continues after the consecration. November 17 is the special concluding evening of the five-day Pra:na Prathishtta, in the presence of His Holiness.

Tuesday, November 17 · Day 5

The last of five days

The morning brings the Sama:srayanam — Prapanna Di:ksha from His Holiness at 9 AM — and the community Mahaprasa:dam. The vadama:la evening and the Maha: Ha:rathi close the consecration. If you can come for only one evening, come for the first and the last.
