Thirukurungudi is traditionally enumerated as number 54 among the 108 Divya Desams — the sacred abodes of Sri Maha Vishnu sung by the Alvars.
This place is one of the eighteen divya desams in Pandya Nadu. It is located about eight miles from Nanguneri. The | Dakshina Sindhu river flows nearby. The river is also known ag | Nambi Aru i.e. river in Tamil. In this place, at the foot of the | hill, God is seen in three poses i.e. lying down posture (bogha sayanam) standing posture and sitting posture. On the hill nearby also there is a sannidhi for the Perumal which is known as Malai Nambi sannidhi i.e. the sannidhi in the hills. About three furlongs from the temple, there is a small rivulet by name | Thirupparkadal. On its bank, there is yet another sannidhi for Nambi. At that place He is known as Thirupparkadal Nambi.
Perumal here has got several names. He is known as Nindra Nambi, Kurungudi Nambi, Irundha Nambi, Vaduga Nambi, Vaishnava Nambi, Thirupparkadal Nambi, Malai Nambi. The moolavar is seen in a standing posture facing east. The thayar is known as Kurungudivalli Nachiyar. The theertham is known as Thirupparkadal and Sindhu nadhi. The vimanam is Panchasa | Ketaka vimanam. God gave darshan to Siva and Nampaduvan. The utsava murthis of thayar sannidhis are kept along with Pe- | rumal in ekasanam in the moolasthanam. Hence in the thayar sannidhis, there is no separate archanai i.e. offering of prayers.
This place is also known as Vamana kshetram as the Nambi Perumal who is seen in a standing posture is vamanan. The story of Vamana avataram is so well known that it bears no repetition. It is sufficient to recall here that when the dimunitive Vamana took on the form of the gigantic viswaroopa Perumal, one foot covered Brahmaloka. Brahma then washed that holy feet, When Brahma washed the foot, little drops ‘of water are said to have spilt over to the earth, thus originating Gange
theertham in Thirukkurungudi is said to be formed out of a few drops of water that washed the divine foot. Hence the theertham is known as Silambu theertham as also Sindhu | nadhi theertham. a saintly man viz. Emberumanar did upadesam to Sri Nambi who is the archa form of Narayana. Hence it is that this divya desam is known as Dakshina badri.

శో శ్రీ మద్విమ్హు మన శ్రీగీమత్సర కాల వచః ప్రియః
రామానుజార్య మునిసాత్కుతో భయ విభూతికః
వివా వెప్పవ నంబి. మలౌ మేల్ నంబి; నిన నంబి, ఇరుందనంబి; కిడంద నంబి,
తిరుప్పార్ కడల్ నంబి” అను పంచాకృతులలో వేంచేసియున్నారు. కురుంగుడి వల్లి
తాయార్;. తిరుప్పార్ కడల్ నది; పంచకేతక విమానము; తూరు ముఖము,
నిలుచున్న సేవ, పరమ శివునకు ప్రత్యక్షము, నమ్మాళ్వార్, పెరియాళార్, తిరుమ్మళ్షశె
ఆళ్వార్, తిరుమంగ. యాళ్వార్ కీర్తించినది. ఉడయవరులకు ఉభయ విభూతి
నాయకత్వమును అను గహించిన స్థలము.
విశే ఈ క్షేతమునకు ఎెషప్లవ వోమనమని పేరు. ఇచట స్వామి వడుగ నంబి
రూపముతో ఉడయవరులను ( శ్రీరామానుజులను) ఆశ్రయించి వారి నుండి
మం(తోపదేశమును పొంది సకల వేదాన్హార్థములను. (గ్రహించి “మేమును
శ్రీ భగవద్రామానుజులను ఆశ్రయించితిమి; ధన్యులవు తొ మని ఆనందముతో
(పకటించుటచే ఈ న్షేతమునకు చెప్పన వామనమని పేరు. ఈ ఉత్సవము ప్రతి
సంవత్సరము మిధునమాసములో జరుగును. వామనుడు వసించిన చోటగుటచే
కురుజ్లుడి యనియు సిద్దాశమమనియు పేరు వచె ఎను. ఉడయవర్ తడి వస్త్రములను
ఆరబెట్టిన “తిరువట్టపా రి ఇచట సేవింపవచు ఎను. ఇచట ఉడయవర్ అంజలి
_ ముద్రతో కాక జ్ఞాన ముద్రతో వేంచేసియుందురు. నిన్హా-కిడంద నంబుల సన్నిధుల
మధ్య శివుని ఆలయము కలదు.
ఈ సన్నిధికి 10 కి.మీ. దూరములో కొండమీద మలె మేల్ నంబి సన్నిధి గలదు..ఈ
దివ్యదేశమున తాయార్; పరుమాళ్లతో కలసి వేంచేసియుందురు. మీనం ఉత్తర
తీర్జోత్సవము.
__ఈక్షేత్రమును గూర్చి ఆృ్య్వార్టు “నితైన్ద శోతి వెళ్లమ్ శ్యూన్ల; వీల్ణ పాన్మేవి
యోడుమ్, నిజైప్దైన్నుళ్లే నిన్హాగిన్హాన్” 'పరిపూర్ణమై న కాన్తి ప్రవావాముచే పరీవృతమె
స ఎపువాణీయమై న దివ్య మంగళ విగహముతో స్వామి నా హృదయమున వేంచేసి
యున్నాడు.” అనియు “సీలమేసియున్ నాన్గుతోళుమ్ ఎనె జమ్ నిజైన్లనవే”
నీలమేఘ శ్యామలమై న తిరుమేనియు చతుర్చుజములు గలిగి నామనస్సున
నిండియున్నాడు.. అనునట్లుగా విభవావతార లావణ్యమును అర్భావతారమందు
దర్శించరి.
సూచనః ఇచట ఎంబెరుమానార్జు స్వామికి మం(తోపదేశము చేయుటచే అన్నిదివ్య
దేశములలో వలె అంజలి ముద్రతో గాక జ్ఞానముదతో వేంచేసియుందురు.
తిరుమంగె ఆ భ్రగ్వర్ శ్రీరంగనాథుని యాజ్ఞానుసారము తిరునాడలంకరించిన
ప్రదేశమును వారిని తిరుప్పల్లి చేర్చిన స్థలమును ఇచట సేవింపవచ్చును.
మార్గం: నాబ్నునేరి (వానమామలై ) నుండి 15 కి.మీ దూరములో గలదు. బస్వసతి
కలదు. నాంగునేరి నుండి కళక్కాడు పోయి అటనుండి వేరుబస్లో తిరుక్కురుబ్నుడి
చేరవచ్చును. రామానుజకూటము,జీయర్స్వాముల మఠము కలవు. మితమైన
సౌకర్యములు గలవు.
